Stress Awareness Day

Today, April 16 is Stress Awareness Day. Today is meant to be a relaxing day after having to stress over filing Income tax the day before. Stress Awareness Day was started in 1992 by a group called Health Resource Network (HRN) to bring awareness of stress.

Stress is not good for the body and can cause high blood pressure, increase in heart attacks and stroke, contribute to infertility, depression, and fasten the aging process.

So today take the time to relax and breathe deeply. Pick up your feet if you have the time and meditate.

A few ways to help you relax and not worry about stress can be found in everyday things. Here are a few:

Decorate with lavender. Sure lavender may be a purple color, but it's properties are amazing in the long run. It has a soothing scent that not only calms you to the point of falling asleep, but it helps lower your blood pressure and your heart rate as well. There are so many products these days that offer the scent of lavender in them. I personally like to clean with the smell of lavender.

Take a bath. You can even find some lavender Epsom salt that you can add to your bath water. Taking a bath puts you in a calm and relax mood. Just don't fall asleep in the tub.

Meditation. Turn everything off and just sit in quietness and let your thoughts run free.

Exercise. By exercising, you are releasing endorphins and we all know endorphins make you happy. Make sure to consult your doctor before starting a new exercise regime.

Sex. Everyone says that having a healthy sex life can help lower the stress levels in a person. It even helps get rid of headaches.

Pet your dog or cat. Having animals around as pets help ease the stress in a person. After all pets show unconditional love to us humans it's no wonder that they can help de-stress us as well.

Remember don't sweat the small stuff, it's only small stuff.
